Calcitonin (Salmon) is used in the treatment of post menopausal osteoporosis, Paget's disease and Hypercalcemia.

Calcitonin (Salmon) is a calcitonin receptor agonist. It acts by suppressing the activity of osteoclasts, cells that cause destruction of bone, thereby strengthening the bones and minimizing the risk of fractures.

Major & minor side effects for Calcitonin

• Runny Nose
• Bleeding from nose
• Sinus pain
• Crusts, dryness, redness, or swelling of nose
• Back pain
• Joint pain
• Stomach upset
• Severe skin rash and hives
• Difficulty in breathing
• Difficulty in swallowing
• Sudden swelling of eyelids, face, throat, tongue
• Change in taste
• Nausea or vomiting
• Dry mouth
• Increased thirst
• Shaking and trembling of arms and feet
• Decrease/loss of hearing
• Blurred vision
• Sleep disturbances

This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women unless absolutely necessary.

This medicine may interact with many other medicines and may cause severe adverse effects.

Use of this medicine may significantly reduce the levels of calcium in the blood. 

Use of this medicine may increase the risk of malignancies (tumors).

Use of this medicine may cause serious or life-threatening allergic reactions in some patients.

Use of this medicine may cause nosebleeds, crusts, dryness, irritation, etc. in some patients.

Circulating antibodies to calcitonin may develop during the course of treatment with this medicine.
