Acetylcysteine is a mucolytic agent which reduces the thickness of the sputum.
Uses
It is used to relieve chest congestion caused by thick or abnormal mucous secretion in patients with lung diseases such as bronchitis, asthma, emphysema, etc. It is also used as an antidote for paracetamol poisoning.
Side Effects
Nausea and Vomiting, Fever, Runny Nose, Diarrhea, Abdominal pain, Skin irritation, Throat irritation, Drowsiness, Chest tightness, Hives, Difficulty in breathing, Presence of blood in cough and Injection site pain
Precautions / Concerns
Avoid if patients are allergic to Acetyl cysteine. Avoid if patients have a history of stomach ulcer. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant.
