  • Secnidazole is in a class of medications called nitroimidazole antimicrobials.
  • Secnidazole is an antibiotic. Secnidazole kills the bacteria and other microorganisms and treats the infections caused by protozoa and certain strains of anaerobic bacteria by damaging their DNA.
Uses
  • Secnidazole is used in the treatment of bacterial &amp; parasitic infections.
  • It is used in infections of the brain, reproductive system, gastrointestinal tract, skin, vagina, and other areas of the body.
Side Effects
  •  Itching of the vagina or genitals
  •  Thick, white vaginal discharge with mild or no odor
  •  Change in taste
  •  Diarrhea
  •  Headache
  •  Loss of taste
  •  Nausea
  •  Stomach pain
  •  Vomiting
  •  Vaginal yeast infection
Precautions / Concerns
  • Antibiotics will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections. Using antibiotics when they are not needed increases your risk of getting an infection later that resists antibiotic treatment.
  • Inform your doctor if you have  liver disease. Your dose may need to be adjusted in severe liver disease.
  • Do not drink alcohol during or for 2-3 days after treatment with this
  • medicine. You may develop nausea, vomiting, flushing and headache.
