Trimethoprim is an antibiotic. It works by preventing synthesis of essential proteins
required by bacteria to carry out vital functions. Thus, it stops the bacteria from
growing, and prevents the infection from spreading.

Trimethoprim is used to treat bladder or kidney infections, or ear infections caused
by certain bacteria.

 Stomach upset
 Nausea and Vomiting
 Diarrhea
 Itching and skin rash
 Swelling in tongue
 pale, gray, or bluish skin
 fever, weakness
 easy bruising, purple or red spots under your skin

• This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients with liverimpairment due to the risk of worsening of the patient's condition. 
• Usage of this medicine without sufficient proof or suspicion of a bacterial infectionshould be avoided. 
• Discontinue the use of this medicine as per the doctor's instructions if severediarrhea occurs after receiving this medicine. 
• Use of this medicine may cause folate deficiency in some patients and hence it isadvised to take folic acid supplements along with this medicine. 
• This medicine may increase the blood potassium levels in some patients.
