ZUSTDINE M

SALT COMPOSITION
Povidone Iodine 5.00 %w/w + Aloe Vera Extract 1.50 %w/w + Metronidazole 1.00 %w/w
Povidone Iodine
  • Povidone-iodine (PVP-I), also known as iodopovidone,
  • POVIDONE IODINE is used on the skin to decrease risk of infection.
  • The microbicidal action spectrum of povidone iodine (PI) is broad, even after short exposure times. Further, unlike local antibiotics and other antiseptic substances, no resistance seems to develop. The high degree of bactericidal efficiency with respect to highly resistant gram-positivepathogenic micro-organisms, such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Enterococcus strains, has made the agent particularly useful and significant for hospital hygiene.
  • Povidone iodine has traditionally been used by surgeons as a preoperative antiseptic. Cheaper than topical antibiotics, it is recognized as a staple solution for preparing the eye for surgery.
Uses
  • This medicine is also used as a surgical hand scrub and to wash the skin and surface of the eye before surgery to help prevent infections.
  • POVIDONE IODINE is an antiseptic used for skin disinfection before and after surgery. It may be used both to disinfect the hands of healthcare providers and the skin of the person they are caring for.
  •  It may also be used for minor wounds. It may be applied to the skin as a liquid or a powder.  It may be used in first aid for minor cuts, grazes, burns, abrasions and blisters.
  • Povidone-iodine exhibits longer lasting antiseptic effects than tincture of iodine, due to its slow absorption via soft tissue, making it the choice for longer surgeries. Chlorhexidine provides similar results, but with equal toxicity concerns.
  • Consequently, PVP-I has found broad application in medicine as a surgical scrub; for pre- and post-operative skin cleansing; for the treatment and prevention of infections in wounds, ulcers, cuts and burns; for the treatment of infections in decubitus ulcers and stasis ulcers; in gynaecology or vaginitis associated with candidal, trichomonal or mixed infections. For these purposes PVP-I has been formulated at concentrations of 7.5–10.0% in solution, spray, surgical scrub, ointment, and swab dosage forms.
Side Effects
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, like rash; hives; itching; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin with or without fever; wheezing; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.
  • Redness.
Precautions / Concerns
  • Iodine hypersensitivity :- Patients with a sensitivity to any of the product components, including those individuals with a known iodine hypersensitivity, should not receive treatment with povidone-iodine.
  • Thyroid disease :- Use of povidone-iodine solutions may rarely result in significant iodine absorption, particularly with prolonged use ; therefore, depending on the circumstances of use and route of administration, caution is advised when administering povidone-iodine to patients with thyroid disease.
  • Ocular exposure :- Take measures to ensure povidone-iodine topical products do not come into contact with the eyes. If ocular exposure occurs, rinse eyes thoroughly with water. When preparing the field for ophthalmic surgery, only specialized povidone-iodine preparations should be used.
  • Burns, renal impairment :- Povidone-iodine is indicated for prevention of infection in patients with minor burns, cuts, and scrapes. Instruct patients to seek the advice of their doctor or health care professional prior to administering povidone-iodine to deep puncture wounds, animal bites, or serious burns
  • Pregnancy :- It is not known if administration of the ophthalmic preparation to a pregnant woman can cause fetal harm or affect the reproductive system. Povidone-iodine should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit to the mother justifies the potential risk to the fetus; non-prescription use should be avoided.
  • Breast-feeding :- A decision should be made to discontinue nursing or discontinue povidone-iodine, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother. Topical use of povidone-iodine immediately prior to delivery has resulted in iodine overload in breast-feeding infants in the postpartum period, and may lead to transient hypothyroidism. Chlorhexidine has been proposed as an alternative agent when perinatal application has been needed.

Aloe Vera Extract
  • Aloe medications can be taken by mouth or applied to the skin. It has become a popular herbal remedy that was used to help treat everything from skin issues to digestive problems.
  • It contains antioxidants, enzymes, Vitamins A and C, and it is highly anti- inflammatory.
Uses
  • It can help treat burns and wounds, acne and dry skin. Aloe extract cream might reduce redness, scaling, itching and inflammation caused by mild to moderate psoriasis. Applying a cream containing aloe extract might help lesions heal sooner. The enzymes in it can also help exfoliate the skin to make it smoother
  • Aloe seems to be able to speed wound healing by improving blood circulation through the area and preventing cell death around a wound.
  • It also appears that aloe gel has properties that are harmful to certain types of bacteria and fungi.
Side Effects
  • Some research suggests that aloe might lower blood sugar.
  • Do not take aloe latex if you have haemorrhoids. High doses of aloe latex have been linked to kidney failure and other serious conditions.
  • Taking aloe latex or aloe whole-leaf extract by mouth is POSSIBLY UNSAFE at any dose.
Precautions / Concerns
  • Whether oral use of aloe latex is effective at treating constipation is unclear. While it acts as a laxative, aloe latex can also cause abdominal cramps and diarrhoea.
  • Unprocessed aloe latex contains chemicals that appear to have the potential to cause cancer, and processed aloe latex might have cancer- causing compounds.
  • Taking 1 gram a day of aloe latex for several days can cause kidney damage and might be fatal.
