Loratadine is an antihistaminic medication. It treats allergy symptoms such as itching, swelling, and rashes by blocking the effects of a chemical messenger (histamine) in the body.


 

Loratadine is used to treat sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, hives, skin rash, itching, and other cold or allergy symptoms.
Loratadine is also used to treat skin hives and itching in people with chronic skin reactions.

•  headache;
•  feeling tired or drowsy;
•  stomach pain, vomiting;
•  dry mouth; or
•  feeling nervous or hyperactive.
•  Stop using loratadine and call your doctor at once if you have:
•  fast or uneven heart rate;
•  severe headache; or
•  a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out;
•  changes in eyesight
•  problem in passing urine

• As compared to other similar medications, it is much less likely to make you feel sleepy.
• Be cautious while driving or doing anything that requires concentration as it can cause dizziness and sleepiness.
• Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication as it may cause increased sleepiness.
• Stop taking Loratadine at least three days before taking an allergy test as it can affect the test results.
• Your mouth may get dry. Chewing sugarless gum or sucking hard candy, and drinking plenty of water may help.
