Alfacalcidol is a Vitamin D-hormone analog that gets activated in the body with the
help of liver enzymes. It gets converted into the active form of vitamin D3 (calcitriol)
that helps in strengthening the bones and also regulates the other functioning of the
body.

Alfacalcidol is used as a supplement to treat deficiency of Vitamin D associated with
conditions such as hypocalcemia, rickets, etc.
It is also used to treat calcium metabolism disturbances caused due to diseases of
the kidneys and the parathyroid gland.

or drugs containing vitamin D as an ingredient due to the increased risk of serious
adverse effects.
This medicine should be used with caution in patients suffering from cardiovascular
diseases due to the increased risk of worsening of the patients' condition.
