Anastrozole is an aromatase inhibitor. Anastrozole is used to treat early hormone
receptor-positive breast cancer. It works by lowering the amount of estrogen
(natural female hormone) produced in the body. This can lower or stop the growth
of some breast cancer cells that need estrogen to grow.
Anastrozole is used to treat breast cancer. It’s given to women who have gone
through menopause.
This medicine is also used to treat women whose breast cancer has worsened after
tamoxifen therapy.

This medicine is used only in women who have already stopped menstruating
(postmenopausal).
If you have early breast cancer and a history of blockage in your heart
arteries, anastrozole may cause low blood flow to your heart.
Anastrozole can decrease bone density in your lower spine and hips.
Anastrozole may cause your cholesterol levels to rise.
