Aztreonam is an antibiotic. It kills bacteria by preventing them from forming the
bacterial protective covering (cell wall) which is needed for them to survive.
This medication is usually given by injection into a vein or a muscle as directed by
your doctor.
Aztreonam is used in the treatment of severe bacterial infections. It is used in

Antibiotic therapy will cause an imbalance in the normal microbial flora of the large
intestine, which may promote the growth of a bacteria called Clostridium difficile
and you may experience severe diarrhea as a result.
This medicine should be used with caution in patients with a known history of an
impaired kidney function due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects.
Usage of this medicine without sufficient proof or suspicion of a bacterial infection
should be avoided.
This medicine has rarely been known to cause toxic epidermal necrolysis, a
potentially life-threatening skin disorder.
