Bimatoprost is a prostaglandin analogue. It works by increasing the outflow of
aqueous humor, thereby lowering the increased eye pressure.
The ophthalmic form of this medicine is used for the treatment of patients suffering
from intraocular hypertension; it reduces the fluid pressure inside the eyes.
The ophthalmic form of this medicine is used to reduce fluid pressure inside the
eyes of patients suffering from open-angle glaucoma, a condition characterized by
progressive damage to the optic nerve that may eventually lead to vision loss.
The topical ophthalmic form of this medicine is used for the treatment of inadequate
amount of eyelashes (hypotrichosis); it increases the length, thickness, and darkness
of the eyelashes.

This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women
unless absolutely necessary.
The ophthalmic form of this medicine is not recommended for use if you are
wearing soft contact lenses.
If the ophthalmic solution of this medicine is contaminated by bacteria, it can lead to
an infection of the cornea (bacterial keratitis).
Use of this medicine may cause some changes in eyelashes such as increased length,
thickness, pigmentation, a misdirected growth of eyelashes, etc.
This medicine is not recommended for use in patients below 16 years of age since
the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established.
Timolol is a nonselective beta-adrenergic antagonist given in an eye drop solution to reduce intraocular pressure. It is also used in tablet form as a drug to treat hypertension. This medication works by decreasing the amount of fluid within the eye. Timolol belongs to a class of drugs known as beta-blockers.
This medication is used to treat high pressure inside the eye due to glaucoma (open angle-type) or other eye diseases (e.g., ocular hypertension). Lowering high pressure inside the eye helps to prevent blindness.
- Temporary blurred vision, temporary burning/stinging/itching/redness of the eye, watery eyes, dry eyes, feeling as if something is in the eye, or headache may occur.
- Tell your doctor right away if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: dizziness, eyepain/swelling/discharge, slow/irregular heartbeat, muscle weakness, mental/mood changes, coldness/numbness/pain in the hands or feet.
- A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
Before using Timolol, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies
- This medication should not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: lung disease (e.g., current or past history of asthma, severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), certain types of irregular heartbeats (e.g., sinus bradycardia, second or third degree AV block), certain types of heart disease (e.g., severe heart failure, cardiogenic shock).
- If you develop an eye infection or injury, or have eye surgery, check with your doctor about whether you should continue to use your current bottle of Timolol. You may be advised to start using a new bottle.
- If you have diabetes, this medication may prevent the fast/pounding heartbeat you would usually feel when your blood sugar level falls too low (hypoglycemia). This drug may cause temporary blurred vision. Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires clear vision until you are sure you can perform such activities safely.
- This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy.
- Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
