Cefotaxime injection is used to treat bacterial infections in many different parts of the body.
This medicine is also given before, during, and after certain types of surgery to prevent infections.
Cefotaxime is an antibiotic. It kills the bacteria by preventing them from forming the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) which is needed for them to survive.

- Abdominal pain
- Black or tarry stools
- Diarrhea
- Dizziness
- Increased heartbeat
- Skin rash
- Difficult or painful urination
- Blurred vision
- Fever with chills
- Loss of appetite
- Seizures
- Pain at the injection site
This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women unless necessary.
Usage of this medicine without sufficient proof or suspicion of a bacterial infection should be avoided.
This medicine contains sodium in it and therefore it should be used with caution in patients with conditions that may require sodium restriction, such as congestive heart failure, hypertension, and fluid retention.
Avoid the use of this medicine if the patient experiences severe diarrhea after receiving therapy with this medicine.
