Eslicarbazepine is used alone or together with other medicines to control partial seizures (convulsions) in the treatment of epilepsy.

Eslicarbazepine belongs to a class of medicines called anticonvulsants. It acts in the brain to prevent seizures. This medicine cannot cure epilepsy and will only work to control seizures as long as you continue to take it.

Major & minor side effects for Eslicarbazepine

• Dizziness and fainting
• Sense of imbalance
• Uncontrolled eye movements
• Unusual tiredness or weakness
• Sleepiness
• Forgetfulness
• Trouble concentrating
• Slow or slurred speech
• Shaking of body
• Nausea or vomiting
• Constipation
• Stomach pain
• Recurrent infections
• Fever
• Blistering and peeling of skin
• Painful sores in mouth, or on tongue or lips
• Difficulty in breathing
• Difficulty in swallowing
• Yellowing of skin and eyes

• This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women unless absolutely necessary. 
• Report the use of all your current medicines, including any herbs and supplements, to the doctor. 
• This medicine is not recommended for use in children below 4 years of age since safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established.
• This medicine should be used with caution and monitoring in patients with a mild to moderate impairment of normal liver function due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects.
• Use of this medicine may increase the risk of suicidal behavior and ideation, especially in patients with a history of depressive disorders.
• Use of this medicine may cause some severe and life-threatening allergic reactions.
• Use of this medicine may cause neurological side effects such as dizziness, disturbance in gait and coordination, fatigue, cognitive dysfunction, drowsiness, etc. in some patients.
• Use of this medicine should be withdrawn gradually to minimize the risk of increased seizure frequency and status epilepticus.
