Lactitol Monohydrate
- Lactitol (beta-galactosido-sorbitol) is a crystalline sugar alcohol and reduced calorie sweetener with a sweetness roughly 40 percent of sugar.
- Lactitol and lactitol monohydrate are derived from cow's milk (lactose, or milk sugar) and used in the food industry. With a glycemic index of three, lactitol has a negligible effect on blood sugar levels and can be used in diabetic and diet foods. It is also used internationally as an osmotically acting laxative (OsmoAid).
- Lactitol monohydrate works by drawing water into the intestine through osmosis, which makes the stool soft and easier to pass.
Uses
Lactitol monohydrate is used as a laxatives,purgatives. This drug is used to prevent or treat constipation.

Precautions / Concerns
Caution should be taken in patients with:
• Galactosemia
• Iatrogenic hypersensitivity
• Intestinal obstruction
• Abdominal pain
• Bleeding
Ispaghula Husk
It increases the bulk in your stool, an effect that helps to cause movement of the intestines. It also works by increasing the amount of water in the stool, making the stool softer and easier to pass.
Uses
Used to treat constipation.
Side Effects
Intestinal obstruction, bloating of abdomen, flatulence and abdominal pain.
Precautions / Concerns
Avoid if you have difficulty swallowing, appendicitis,sudden or unexplained stomach/abdominal pain,a sudden change in bowel habits that lasts for longer than 2 weeks, bleeding from the rectum.
