Propylene Glycol
  • Propylene glycol (CH8O2) is a commonly used drug solubilizer in topical, oral, and injectable medications. It is used as stabilizer for vitamins, and as a water-miscible cosolvent.
  • Propylene Glycol is a lubricating agent used for the temporary relief of eye irritation caused by dryness of the eyes.
Uses
  •  Propylene Glycol is used in the treatment of dry eyes.
  •  It stabilizes the natural tear film and maintains necessary lubrication so your eyes don’t get dry and irritated.
  •  Propylene glycol is also used as moisturizer in cosmetic products and as a dispersant in fragrances.

Precautions / Concerns
  • This medicine is considered safe for use by pregnant or breastfeeding women. 
  • If you experience any symptoms such as eye pain, changes in vision, continued redness or irritation, worsening of the condition or persistence of symptoms for more than 72 hours, contact your doctor for further consultation.
Polyethylene Glycol

Polyethylene Glycol works by drawing water into the intestine through osmosis,
which makes the stool soft and easier to pass. It also helps clean out the intestines
prior to medical procedures or examination.

 

Uses

 

  • This medicine is used to relieve occasional constipation by softening the stools. It is also used before certain medical procedures to empty the bowels.
  • This medicine can also be found in a number of other products including skin creams, eye lubricants, food additives, etc. It prevents dry and hard stools and allows for easy passage of stools.

Precautions / Concerns
  • This medicine may cause severe adverse effects such as a severe or bloody diarrhea, rectal bleeding, blood in stools, worsening abdominal pain, etc. in some patients.
  •  This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients suffering from electrolyte abnormalities due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.
  •  This medicine is not recommended for use for more than 1 week due to the increased risk of dependence.
  •  This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients with a history of kidney diseases due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects. It should be used only when the risks outweigh the benefits and only under the supervision of a healthcare professional.
Sodium Hyaluronate
  • Sodium Hyaluronate is the salt form of hyaluronic acid. It works by reducing the friction in the joints and helps them to work smoothly. It may work by acting as a lubricant and shock absorber in the joint, helping the knee to move smoothly, thereby lessening pain.
  • Hyaluronic acid is also one of the most popular ingredients in the cosmetic industry, offering powerful absorption and hydration properties. 
     
Uses

This medication is used to treat knee pain in patients with joint inflammation (osteoarthritis). It is usually used in patients who have not responded to other treatments such as acetaminophen, exercise, or physical therapy. Also used as a Treatment to coat the bladder lining when treating conditions like interstitial cystitis. 

  • The topical form of this medicine is used to treat skin conditions such as bed sores, diabetic foot ulcers, burn wounds, surgical incisions, dry or scaly skin, cuts, skin irritations, etc. 
  • The ophthalmic form of this medicine is used to prevent eye dryness. It may also be used during eye surgeries to protect eye tissues from mechanical stress. It’s often used in cosmetic products to help the skin absorb and retain more moisture, which can create a plumping effect that results in smooth, supple skin.

Precautions / Concerns

 

  • Do not strain your knee joint for two days after receiving Sodium Hyaluronate. Avoid activities such as strenuous sports and exercise, or standing on your feet for a long time.
  • Inform your doctor if knee pain or swelling continues for a long time or becomes worse after receiving the medication.
  • Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: kneejoint infections, skin infections/problems in the area around the injection site, circulation problems in the legs.
