Methylcobalamin
- Methylcobalamin/Mecobalamin is a form of vitamin B12 that restores its level in the body thereby helping in treating certain anaemias and nerve problems.
- It is required for the integrity of myelin, neuronal function, proper red blood cell formation and DNA synthesis
Uses
- It is used to treat Vitamin B12 deficiency in people with Pernicious Anemia.
- It is a beneficial drug to most of the common disorders like cardiovascular disorders, diabetes, anaemia, hyperhomocysteinemia and degenerative disorders.
- Methylcobalamin helps in the synthesis of neuronal lipids, regeneration of axonal nerves and has neuroprotective activity, which promotes neurons to function properly and thus improves Alzheimer disease, Parkinsonism, Dementia and neuropathic syndromes.
- It is an approved treatment for peripheral neuropathy.
- It also helps in balancing the levels of homocysteine, which is produced in excess can cause inflammation of blood vessels.

Precautions / Concerns
- Methylcobalamin can show some serious side effects in patients who might suffer from other conditions.
- Everyone needs to consume this medicine only after clinical consultation. The serious side effects of Methylcobalamin can include the formation of clots in limbs, depleted levels of potassium in the blood, a buildup of fluid in the lungs, heart failure and in some cases, anaphylactic reactions such as swollen tongue and throat, and hives.
- Consuming Methylcobalamin is not advisable for patients suffering from optic atrophy, which is a nerve condition that affects the eye.
- People who are suffering from infections or patients who have a low iron level in their body should be careful before taking Methylcobalamin and should only do so after the consultation of the doctor.
- It is not advised for mothers to consume Methylcobalamin if they are breastfeeding. Mother’s milk is a rich source of Vitamin B12 and consuming additional supplements while breastfeeding can have adverse effects on the baby.

Uses
Used to treat Vitamin B3 deficiency, Alzheimer's disease, osteoarthritis, diarrhea, Type 1 and 2 diabetes, reduces high cholesterol, pain and swelling.
Side Effects
Dizziness, headache, hyperglycemia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, elevations in liver function tests, hepatotoxicity, blurred vision and flushing, rash

Consult with the doctor if you have history of jaundice, liver disease, or diabetes .
Benzyl Alcohol
- Benzyl alcohol is a water-white liquid with a faint aromatic odor and a sharp burning taste.
- Benzyl alcohol is a prescription topical (for the skin) medication used as an anti- parasite medication.
- Benzyl alcohol is in a class of medications called pediculicides. It works by killing the lice. Benzyl alcohol lotion will not kill lice eggs, so the medication must be used a second time to kill the lice that may hatch from these eggs.
Uses
- This medication is used to treat head lice, tiny insects that live on and irritate your scalp.
- This drug is not recommended for use in children younger than 6 months.
Side Effects
- Irritation, itching, redness, tingling, or numbness at the application site may occur. Eye irritation may occur if the medication gets into the eyes (see also How to Use section). If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
- Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
- A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
Precautions / Concerns
- Before using benzyl alcohol, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
- Constant or forceful scratching of the skin/scalp may lead to a bacterial skin infection. Tell your doctor right away if you develop worsening redness or pus.
- Children may be more sensitive to the side effects of the drug. If you are treating an infant, make sure to tell the doctor if your infant was born early (premature) so that the doctor can decide if your infant is old enough to use this medication.
- During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
