Nitazoxanide is an antiparasitic medication. It inhibits the production of certain chemicals and substances essential for energy metabolism and growth of the parasite.

Nitazoxanide is used for the treatment of diarrhea in patients with protozoal infections caused by the protozoa Giardia and Cryptosporidium.

• This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding and pregnant women unless necessary.
• This medicine should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver diseases due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects.
• This medicine should be used with caution in patients with a history of kidney diseases due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects.
• The tablet form of this medicine is not recommended for use in children aged below 12 years. The oral suspension form of this medicine is used in children aged 1 to 11 years. 
• Your doctor may prescribe this medicine for indications other than those stated above in certain specific circumstances, especially if other medicines are not effective.
