Rosuvastatin is a lipid-lowering medication (statin). It works by blocking an enzyme (HMG-CoA-reductase) that is required by the body to make cholesterol, thereby lowering "bad" cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides and raising "good" cholesterol (HDL).

• Rosuvastatin is used together with diet to lower blood levels of "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, or LDL), to increase levels of "good" cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein, or HDL), and to lower triglycerides (a type of fat in the blood).
• Rosuvastatin is also used to treat hereditary types of high cholesterol: The heterozygous type or the homozygous type.
• Rosuvastatin may be used for primary prevention of cardiovascular disease, to lower the risk of coronary events (such as heart attack, stroke, and angina) in patients at high risk of these events (for example those people with pre-existing coronary heart disease; diabetes; peripheral vessel disease; a previous history of stroke and stroke-like events or heart attack; or with multiple risk factors such as older age, smoking, high blood pressure, low HDL-C, or a family history of heart disease).

• Muscle pain
• Tenderness
• Weakness
• Headache
• Joint pain
• Acid or sour stomach
• Diarrhea
• Excessive air or gas in stomach
• Blood in urine
• Redness of the skin especially on the face and neck

• This medicine may cause an alteration in the blood sugar levels. This risk is especially higher in patients with diabetes mellitus. Close monitoring of blood sugar levels may be necessary based on the clinical condition.
• This medicine may cause forgetfulness, memory loss, confusion, etc. in some patients. These side effects are reversible and usually disappear once the medicine is discontinued.
• This medicine may cause muscle breakdown and rhabdomyolysis in some patients, a condition which can be fatal. This may cause symptoms such as severe tiredness and weakness. This risk is especially higher in the elderly population and in patients with active muscle disorders. 
• This medicine may cause liver and kidney injuries in patients consuming alcohol very frequently and in large quantities.
