Alpha Lipoic Acid
  • It is an essential cofactor for many enzymes related to energy metabolism, and activates the insulin-signaling cascade to help lower blood sugar.
  • Alpha-lipoic converts blood sugar (glucose) into energy using oxygen, a process referred to as aerobic metabolism. Alpha-lipoic acid is also considered an antioxidant, meaning that it can neutralize harmful compounds called free radicals that damage cells at the genetic level.

Benfotiamine

Benfotiamine is a derivative of vitamin B1. Derived from thiamine, this medication is
used as a dietary supplement. It helps to raise tissue and blood levels of thiamine,
which then helps to protect the body from any med conditions arising from low
levels of thiamine such as heart and nerve disorders. It also helps against diabetic
neuropathy.The drug is easily absorbed through cell membranes, thus making it
easier for it to be transported to the cells that most require it.

Uses

It is used for the treatment and prevention of vitamin B1 deficiency that cannot be
corrected through dietary modifications. It may also be used for the treatment of
neuropathies and cardiovascular disorders caused due to vitamin B1 deficiency. It
may also be used for the treatment of Beriberi and Wernicke&#39;s encephalopathy.

  • It is an approved treatment for peripheral neuropathy.

Precautions / Concerns
  • Methylcobalamin can show some serious side effects in patients who might suffer from other conditions.
  • Everyone needs to consume this medicine only after clinical consultation. The serious side effects of Methylcobalamin can include the formation of clots in limbs, depleted levels of potassium in the blood, a buildup of fluid in the lungs, heart failure and in some cases, anaphylactic reactions such as swollen tongue and throat, and hives.
  • Consuming Methylcobalamin is not advisable for patients suffering from optic atrophy, which is a nerve condition that affects the eye.
  • People who are suffering from infections or patients who have a low iron level in their body should be careful before taking Methylcobalamin and should only do so after the consultation of the doctor.
  • It is not advised for mothers to consume Methylcobalamin if they are breastfeeding. Mother’s milk is a rich source of Vitamin B12 and consuming additional supplements while breastfeeding can have adverse effects on the baby.
